The goal was creating an art piece, using the text of a poem of mine in calligraphy as the main element of the picture.

My role: Calligraphy, research, designing, drawing, deciding the color palete, digital prototyping

My first clue was to look into Persian carpet's designs, because I wanted some Persian taste in the frame. I went through various styles and different artists. Eventually, after having enough of inspirations, I ended up with illuminated manuscripts. Then started prototyping the text, first in straight lines to do the calculations, and after a few prototypes the labyrinth, that I was imagining, came to reality.

An early design

A digital prototype was needed to have a clear idea of the whole image. After deciding on the color palette, I started to work with some scraps from various artists and the scan of the final calligraphy in Photoshop.

To draw more attention to the circle in the center, I applied the background on a separate paper sheet, and to amplify the effect and show more depth, I created a shadow behind the labyrinth with carbon.

English

I'm an unbeliever
to the gods of thousand-year-old friendships
and also the necessity of length and depth to a friendship
I'm in awe about this disbelief
Whether you ignited it or my disbelief ignited you
Surprisingly, I'm a mere observer
Watching how fleeting is my friendship
and how enormous is my love for you
